Laundry Care
Caring for your clothes the right way
Washing and caring correctly for your clothing can increase its lifespan considerably, meaning your favourite pieces stay in your wardrobe for longer. This is one of the simple ways you can contribute to a better fashion industry.
We pride ourselves on our clothes fitting our “easy wear, easy care” design ethos, so each of the fabrics we offer have been selected for its ease of care in conjunction with its styling properties.
Sustainable Laundry Practices
Caring for your clothing in a conscious way can include using less water and energy in the laundering process as well making more informed decisions like choosing a ‘green’ dry cleaner. These practices can help to reduce your impact on the environment and the climate.
Most clothing can be washed on a colder temperature than indicated on its care label. Choosing to wash your garments on a cold cycle means you use less energy. Remember, 90% of the energy used in a laundry cycle is just spent heating up the water. Therefore, we always suggest choosing a cold, gentle cycle when washing all your Philosophy Australia items, or hand washing them in cold water.
Drying Tips
Always remember to quickly remove these garments when the cycle finishes and hang them to dry. Give them a good shake, and shape on the hanger. This can help to avoid creasing and reduce the need for pressing / ironing. Although please note that knitted garments, as opposed to woven garments, prefer to dry flat to maintain their shape, but our Foundation slinky jersey is happy to be hung.
Using Laundry Detergent Wisely
The amount of laundry detergent you use can actually make a difference, for both the environment and your clothing. Too much and you can ruin your garments, coating them in laundry detergent residue, too little and your clothing might not come out smelling fresh and clean. To avoid this, make sure to always follow the instructions and use the recommended dose.
Storing Your Clothing
Beyond washing and drying, storing clothing correctly helps to increase its lifespan. Proper protection from damp and moths is important, in addition to allowing enough room in your wardrobe for your clothing to hang comfortably.
