Tell us about your store

I opened Kachoo in 2017 with a background in retail, and being a seamstress by training. With the aim to cater for women over 35, all body shapes and sizes, and to offer quality products with a fantastic customer service. At first, I started with good quality casual fashion and a lot of natural fibres garments, as the store progressed and grew, I added an evening and special event wear section into the store.

Who is your customer profile?

I aim to cater for women over 35 who like smart, good quality timely pieces for every day casual wear and in the evening section the opportunity to find that special piece that you want to see yourself in, that makes you feel special at their event.

What sets your boutique apart?

My team pride themselves on giving the best quality service to our customers and the opportunity of offering a wide range to pick from.

What is your best style tip?

Don’t fight against your personality on how you dress and don't be dictated by what is in fashion. Be open to suggestions as fashion is all about trying different things, and you might just surprise yourself.

What makes your day?

Every now and then we have ladies that come into our store that are upset and even break into tears because they have been shopping at other businesses and haven’t been offered any advice or assistance and then they don’t feel very positive about themselves. When we offer style advice and assistance to help them, it is so wonderful to see a completely different person walk out the store in a different frame of mind after they first walked in and then leaving, feeling fantastic about themselves. It is a great feeling to have.

How do you sprinkle kindness?

The front of the store has 4 large windows which one of these we dedicate to a local events or fundraisers for schools, sport clubs, etc. We have had customers ask to promote their events in the window, which is so lovely to give back to those that have supported us.

Apart from your bricks and mortar store, how else do your market your goods?

I am heavily involved in the Tasmanian Turf Club by being involved in several fashion parade with events held in their club, such as Melbourne Cup Luncheon. Throughout the year, we are involved in a numbers of fashion parades like the Clifford Craig Foundation high tea fundraiser and we are lucky to be welcomed back every year to participate in these events.

What’s the best thing to do in your location?

We are surrounded by a lot of other great and varied businesses to complement our location for people who want a relaxed shopping environment.

Is there a local business you’d like to recommend?

I would like to recommend Victoria’s Cosmetic Medical Clinic for always being a supporter of my business.

What are your thoughts about Philosophy Australia?

Kachoo is very lucky to be a stockist of Philosophy. This label represents Australian owned, which provides jobs for Australians, and they represent the label with amazing quality and garments that are timeless and user friendly to mix in with your wardrobe. A label that is an understanding of what Australian women want in their wardrobes and that we all are different shapes and sizes.

I have known Jodie for many years. Jodie and her staff always know how to style me. Items that I would never think to try myself, look fabulous, they are never wrong in their suggestions. I love going into this store.
Well done Jodie and team x
